 City ShotSandy Springs, Georgia may look like any other town in America, except for one big difference — the entire town is run privately.  The town of 100,000 people has privatized everything from the permitting department, the parks, traffic, 911, and even city hall.  In 2005, the town decided to privatize everything except for the police and fire departments.  The movement was led by Mr. Oliver Porter.

Last week, Joe Kent went to visit Sandy Springs to make a documentary about the most privately run town in America. How does one go about incorporating a town?  Is it a dangerous place?  Or could it be that everything works a lot better? Find out this Sunday, at the Foolish Things Salon!”

Bio:
Joe Kent was raised in Hilo, on the Big Island, and he went to Minnesota State University, where he received a degree in Music Education.  He’s been teaching in the public school system for over seven years, touring with high school choirs all over the country.  In 2011, Joe received the outstanding teacher award at King Kamehameha III Elementary School in Lahaina.  In 2012, Joe Kent was a Hawaii National Delegate for Ron Paul.  Soon after, he became chair of the Maui Libertarian Party, and host of the Maui Liberty Network TV Show.  Joe studies Austrian Economics in his free time, and over the years he’s become passionate about getting government out of the classroom.  Joe is now leaving the Department of Education in order to advocate for free market solutions.  In addition, Joe is currently running for U.S. Congress for District 2, on the libertarian ticket.
