THE BIO:

Mark Coleman is a longtime journalist currently writing and editing for the Grassroot Institute of Hawaii, Hawaii’s leading independent think tank devoted to individual liberty, economic freedom and accountable government.

Prior to joining the nonprofit research and educational organization late last year, Mark had worked almost three decades with the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, 10 years with Pacific Business News, and two years with Pacific Business News on Guam.

A former Hawaii chapter president of the Society of Professional Journalists, he also has worked in radio, TV and cable, and as a freelancer for trade journals, political magazines and music tabloids.

Before becoming a journalist, Mark was a libertarian activist with organizations such as the Society for Individual Liberty, the New Right Coalition and Young Americans for Freedom. In 1972 he helped form the national Libertarian Party as a delegate to its founding convention in Denver. He also is a former chairman of the Libertarian Party of Hawaii.As a musician, Mark performs regularly as bass guitarist, singer and songwriter with the pau hana blues band, which has been playing almost every Monday evening for the past 10 years at OnStage Drinks & Grinds in beautiful downtown Kapahulu. In 2015, the band released a CD, called “Raw Sugar.”

Keliʻi Akina, Ph.D. is a recognized scholar, educator, public policy spokesperson,
and community leader in Hawaii. He is currently Trustee-at-Large of the Office of
Hawaiian Affairs, a state-wide governmental position to which he was elected in
2016 with approximately 164,000 votes. Dr. Akina is also President/CEO of the
Grassroot Institute of Hawaii, a public policy think tank dedicated to the principles of
individual liberty, free markets and limited, accountable government. An expert in
East-West Philosophy and ethics, Dr. Akina has taught at universities in China and
the United States and continues as an adjunct instructor at Hawaii Pacific University.

For the past 3 years Kenli has developed and executed digital marketing strategy for Sovereign Man, a firm providing international diversification solutions and investment research. She has since managed the overall operations and online marketing for Rugbydump.com, the internet’s largest Rugby fan website. Currently she is developing marketing strategy for Crovan Holdings, a private equity and advisory firm.

Originally from Hawaii, Kenli has lived and worked in the UK, China, and Chile. She has spoken at seminars and conferences on Economics and Entrepreneurship in Kenya, the Netherlands, Romania, Bulgaria, the UK, China, Chile, and more. Kenli has a masters’ degree on China’s economic development from the London School of Economics.
